This week I read:

Ashen Winter is the sequel to Ashfall which I read over Easter Vacation. They are both fast-paced, thrilling reads. The author imagines what would happen if the super volcano which is under Yellowstone National Park (for real) erupted. After the explosions and ash, there could possibly be a prolonged winter. These books follow Alex through his journeys and adventures. It is a harrowing tale, not for the weak of stomach. Due to mature content, I would not recommend this for 6th graders. But I look forward to my students reading it when they get older.

This book comes highly recommended. I’m having a bit of trouble getting into it, but based on the recommendations I’ve received, I’m going to push through the beginning.  Here is a review, if you’re interested.

And now—the moment you’ve all been waiting for:

VS.

Conventional wisdom would favor Kentucky. And The Hunger Games is dominating at the box office.

And yet there is a still, small voice….

Hear it?

“Connor…”

Or perhaps it’s, “Kentucky…. I have come to let you beat me for three quarters. And then I will require of you a fourth.”

I’m happy with either book claiming victory.
