Ring-the-Bell Monday & It’s Monday! What are you reading?

A new week, a new batch of books–both books finished and being read. Today is…

Ring-the-Bell Monday

{Wherein we share what books we have read in the past week.}

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?

Visit Teach Mentor Texts for Jen & Kellee’s “original”.

{Wherein we share the titles we are currently reading.}

Tree, a six-foot-three-inch twelve-year-old, copes with his parents’ recent divorce and his failure as an athlete by helping his grandfather, a Vietnam vet and recent amputee, and Sophie, a new girl at school.

Comment: A touching story oozing with symbolism. It would pair nicely with Laurel Snyder’s Bigger Than A Breadbox, which also deals with parents’ separation. Tree is an easy-to-like character who wears his emotions on his sleeve.

  1. Dylan is psyched that you have the Alex Rider series on hand… he has been looking to read them all summer & is enjoying every last word! 🙂

      • Baby names & all about pregnancy… we’re expecting in December! I’ve read to Dylan since he was a toddler & he cannot keep his hands off a book.. any book… all books! I love to read for info although now I may pick up one or 2 from him depending on the genre and if I can stay awake long enough – lol!

      • Congratulations. How many children do you have? I’ll have to ask Dylan if he’s looking forward to being a big brother. As far as names, I recommend Mordecai Ali Van Allen O’Shea (Dr. Seuss reference there).

    • I think it’s a W on the guided reading level. Nothing inappropriate about it–just mature in the “subtle” kind of nuanced way. Makes sense? Probably more 7th grade.
